The creative question format
A creative question has a stem and four questions under it — easy to hard. Each tests a different skill, so each carries different marks.
Checked against the boards' rules on
This guide is written by BDEducationManager — management software for Bangladesh's schools, colleges, madrasas and coaching centres — admission, results, fees, attendance and SMS in one place. See the software
Four parts, four skills
| Part | What it tests | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| a — knowledge | Recall: a definition, a name, a fact | 1 |
| b — understanding | Understanding: why or how — explained in one's own words | 2 |
| c — application | Using what was learnt on the new situation in the stem | 3 |
| d — higher skills | Analysis, judgement, a view argued with reasons | 4 |
10 marks in all. Mathematics usually has three parts instead (2 + 4 + 4); check the board's latest guidance for each subject.
A sample
- a) What is condensation? — 1
- b) Why do wet clothes dry faster in summer? — 2
- c) Explain why drops formed on the outside of the glass. — 3
- d) “Without water vapour in the air, no water would form on the glass” — analyse the statement. — 4
Writing the stem
- Not copied from the textbook — a new situation, picture, table or short passage
- Short and clear; parts c and d should need the stem to be answered
- a and b from the lesson; c and d tied to the stem
- Plain question words — “explain”, “analyse”, “give your view”
Creative questions in the software
In BDEducationManager's question papers, the stem and parts a to d have boxes of their own; give each its marks and the total adds itself up, and the paper prints on A4 under your institution's name.
